It is good to have that extra kick when we need it the most. Equally great is to be replenished with some vitamins and minerals lost after going through some arduous exercises. Both of these upshots are what energy drinks promise to do to us. Based on experience, indeed, most of these drinks managed to prove to us the truth to their claims. It could be carefully noticed, however, that none of these assertions is actually disposed at having some tinge of permanence in them. The reason is that, in reality, the effects of these energy drinks are short-lived.

Briefly, by the very active ingredients energy drinks have, such as caffeine and sugar, they work to momentarily increase our body’s capacity to stay active a little while longer, thus allowing us to carry out the activities we intend to accomplish in the mean time. The process is commonly coined as “sugar rush”, wherein our body is forced to take in a substantial amount of sugar, carbohydrates and other energy-inducing chemicals for an artificial energy boost. Since our body did not initiate, or was disinclined to take, this course of action, once the chemicals are consumed by it, eventually, our body enters an exhausted state. Then, we too, get worn-out. All of these could happen in just a few hours depending on our condition before or after intake of the said drinks.

Sports energy drinks are really not as bad as they are sometimes made to appear. In fact, one is free to buy energy drinks as he wishes. Our stern warning only is for a purchaser to limit his consumption of these energy booster drinks. Just like everything else, too much of anything is bad for a person’s well being. For one, it is not good to be too dependent on these drinks where they would replace water in our lives. Water should still be a priority in our daily diet. Second, not all ingredients in energy drinks are revealed to the public. Many of these drinks contain concealed preservatives and unhealthy substances, which should make us watchful as they could slowly destroy our teeth and body. Third, especially for those tight in their budget, they unwittingly spend additional money when they buy energy drinks.

Actually, one is yet to invent a product to be made available in the market that has no disadvantages, but rather only has advantages attached to the commodity. Having read through this, it would seem now that energy drinks are not as grand as we used to think about them after all. In any case, some healthy alternatives to energy drinks are water, milk, and fruit and vegetable juices, shakes or smoothies. Some herbal products could be helpful as well but only those approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Of course, there is no better way for us to be invigorated throughout the day than to try to get enough sleep and rest matched with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
